Tom is a consummate Southern writer and accomplished photographer. He has written more than a dozen books and more than 1,200 magazine features and columns.
Tom grew up in Lincoln County, Georgia and lives in Columbia. The University of Georgia alumnus writes about Georgialina — his name for eastern Georgia and South Carolina. “Carolina Bays,” one of Tom’s latest books and illustrated by noted photographer Robert Clark, was funded in part by the Hampton Wildlife Fund. The volume showcases these unique, diverse and beautiful ecosystems.
Tom is a member of the SC Humanities Speaker’s Bureau, and in October 2018, Gov. Henry McMaster conferred the state’s highest honor upon him, the Order of the Palmetto.
