The Hampton Wildlife Fund (HWF) announced it awarded $68,500 in scholarships for the 2025 school year. This includes $25,000 in new scholarships for eleven students and $43,500 in renewed scholarships for nine previous recipients.

Four students received new 4-year scholarships:

  • Elise Jenneman and Katelin Johnson of Moore each received a $5,000 per year natural resources scholarship. Jenneman won the Harry Hampton Scholarship and is attending Coastal Carolina, while Johnson won the T.W. Hardwick Jr. scholarship and is attending Clemson.
  • Isabel Schreier of Chapin received the James O. Thomason 4-year journalism award for $2,500 per year and is attending USC’s Honors College.
  • Chloe English of Bennettsville received the R.M. Gifford Scholarship for SC Department of Natural Resources (DNR) employee children and is also attending USC’s Honors College.

Additionally, Aiden Fleming of Pawleys Island won the one-year Wallace F. Pate $2,500 natural resources scholarship. Other one-year scholarships were awarded to Laila Landrum, Sarah Bobertz, and Lauren Newell, among others.

The HWF aims to encourage South Carolina students to work in the state to help conserve its outdoor heritage. The fund, a non-profit corporation, partners with the SCDNR and is supported by private donations and fundraising events. Since 1995, the HWF has awarded nearly $1.3 million in scholarships to students in natural resources, journalism, and law enforcement/criminology.

“The Hampton Wildlife Fund is committed to providing Palmetto State high school seniors a range of scholarships in the fields of natural resources, journalism and law enforcement/criminology.” said HWF executive director BeBe Dalton Harrison of Mount Pleasant. “We hope the opportunity will encourage them to work here in South Carolina, helping to conserve the state’s outdoor heritage for future generations.”
