Camp Wildwood of South Carolina
Since 1954, the S.C. Department of Natural Resources has made Camp Wildwood available to all rising 10th through 12th graders to provide them with:
- A basic introduction to South Carolina's wildlife and
natural resources - An understanding, respect for, and commitment to the wise use and management of these resources
- An opportunity to experience what wildlife biologists, fisheries biologists, law enforcement officers, and others do in the field of natural resources
- A learning experience to develop mutual respect and cooperation among persons of all beliefs and personal environments
- The opportunity to grow in self-confidence and to develop initiative and leadership skills in a challenging, but supportive environment
Take One Make One
Take One Make One (TOMO) is designed to teach safe hunting practices to students who have no previous outdoor hunting experience. This program will increase their awareness and the value of wildlife and the natural environment by encouraging experienced adults to "pass on" traditional outdoor skills.
TOMO emphasizes teaching safe and ethical hunting, the conservation and responsible use of our natural resources and character education.
SC Envirothon
The Envirothon is a program for high school students to learn more about our natural environment. The spirit of competition motivates athletes, drives successful businesses and stimulates new ideas. The Envirothon tests the student's knowledge on topics such as soils, water resources, forestry, wildlife and current environmental issues.
SC Archery in the Schools
The National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP) is a joint venture between state departments of Education and Wildlife. Several archery equipment manufactures and organizations are also partners.
The program promotes student education, physical education and participation in the life-long sport of Archery. The program's focus is to provide
International Style target Archery training in physical education classes grades 4-12. The South Carolina program has however been modified in some schools to accommodate agricultural classes, in-school outdoors clubs and special education classes.
Carolina Coastal Discovery Marine Education Program
Our educators provide place-based marine science programs that focus on the conservation of the state's coastal natural resources, as well as relevant science standards. We offer land- and boat-based student programs led by our education staff across the coastline. In addition, every summer we offer a workshop for teachers using South Carolina estuaries as our classroom. And don't forget we offer a range of lesson plans, recorded programs and other resources recommended by our educators.
Scholastic Clay Target Sports
The South Carolina Department of Natural Resources Scholastic Clay Target Sports is a team-based youth development program that uses the shotgun sports of trap, skeet, and sporting clays to instill life skills such as discipline, safety, teamwork, ethics, self-confidence and other life values. The program utilizes these disciplines to teach hunting skills through the safe use of hunting equipment including firearms and their relationship to hunting situations. Team members can participate in any or all three of the clay target disciplines; trap, skeet, and sporting clays.
